I have been coming to this restaurant from the week that it opened over 20 years ago, and it is still by far the best Chinese food on the Peninsula. Period. -

So I came here today for lunch, from the Yelp reviews and the other reviews on this site, I expected that the food would be decent. But WOW, to my surprise, the food here is bad. Everything here is bland and extremely greasy. My stomach is going to keep me up tonight. No wonder it is always empty. Please, take my advice and avoid this place. -

The reason why the food was horrid, is because their pan fried noodles are not home made, you can tell that they are store bought, when I say store bought, I mean from Ranch 99, where they are pre-fried and then vacuum packed. Also, their fried egg plant is just a ball of fried dough without any eggplant ( I understand eggplant shrinks a significant amount,, but when you do not taste or see egg plant, it makes you wonder). Also, when we payed the bill, the owner began to yell from the back "What race are these people" out loud in Mandarin, as if we didn't understand. Well, to answer her question, we are both Chinese and very well educated. After that incident, we will never come back and for people who are craving Chinese food, there is a nice Chinese restaurant that has good reviews on the other side of the street. Mandarin gourmet has lost our business, where the owners are racist and yells at her wait staff. -

FOOD IS HORRID, the owner is Cheap, she treats all her customers and wait staff terrible. Please do not go here and save your money for another Chinese restaurant. -

Excellent food, very good service, and all in a beautiful room. This is not a storefront Chinese restaurant. It is a place to dine and have well-prepared, savory Chinese food. I recommend it highly. This is not your spot if you are looking for inexpensive, grab-a-bite Chinese food. -

This place was excellent - by far the best Chinese food in the Bay Area. We ordered the Sesame Chicken, Tangerine Chicken, Beef with Broccoli, Chicken Fried Rice, and Pot Stickers (which were the best we've ever had). We haven't been big ...? -

I am not someone in there Twenties or Thirties I am in my Forties and I have been eating chinese food 4 years. The 2 bad comments made below are Ludicrous. I have been going 2 this restaurant since 1993 or 94, the service has always been great and the food has always been excellent very consistent. The only change at this restaurant is the price and the amount of servings they give you. I do understand why the serving are not as large as they used 2 be. But this will not stop me from going, it just cuts back the number of times I do go there a month. They do not get 5 stars they get 10 STARSSSS.? -

Mandarin Gourmet serves superb food from a diverse but not overwhelming menu. I have dinner there with guests every month or so, and the service has been timely, courteous, and unobtrusive. Highly recommended.?
